NERBC 2011

We're bursting with love, respect, pride and total admiration for our Mr. Mike Jones who just competed in his very first Barista competition aaaand......
ROCKED A 2nd PLACE FINISH !!!!

Mike serves up his signature beverage.

We'd like to especially congratulate Park Brannen (3rd) and Phillip Search (1st) and our good friends Sam Penix, Wiggles Peters and Brandon Duff who rounded out the top 6!

The truth is, we're in awe of EVERYONE that competed and extremely thankful for all those people who work so incredibly hard to make it happen (looking at you Marcus Boni).

It was an amazing privilege to have the 2011 Northeast Regional Barista Competition right here in NYC this past weekend and the entire experience was simply incredible.

New Photography Exhibit

Currently on display at the Rail is a series of landscapes from artist Carter McLean. Carter began taking photographs while on tour as a musician. His explorations have led to intimate bodies of work that examine the everyday.

Two of Carter's images were chosen as finalists in the 8th annual Smithsonian Magazine Photo Contest.

You can see more of his work here.

Looking back, moving forward.

We hope you all had a great Holiday Season and an excellent 2010. Our year was very simply, amazing. We'd like to especially thank:

  • Our incredible staff (JJB, Laura, Dan, Mike, Jason, RJ and David) for making Third Rail what it is.
  • Our amazing and diverse cast of regular customers who make it easy to go to work each day. We feel really fortunate to serve you day in and day out.
  • Our partners in coffee. Intelligentsia and Stumptown. You guys really rocked it this year with the coffees. I mean, REALLY rocked it.

We’re stoked for 2011…

NYC's Top 10 of 0’10

Leather and Rail

The good folks over at TampTamp put out a call for a vote on NYC’s best coffee shops and the results are in: We’re humbled to have even been included among the coffee luminaries on this list.

Here's the bit about us.
Third Rail has had so many reviews this year, maybe they’d like a haiku from TampTamp.

Third Rail Coffee bar
You are so nice and tasty
Everyone loves you

If you can only visit one shop in NYC, this is the one in 2011.

Sprudge.com “gets it”

Almost fell out of my chair when I read this post by the ever-excellent folks at Sprudge.com, particularly this line;
“…but Third Rail feels New York in the very best way: bustling, unpretentious, classy…”

Such insightful and astute observations, beautifully written. We can’t tell you how much it means to us. Dreams DO come true.
